What to do if you have a motor vehicle accident

1. If possible, exchange details at the scene – it is important to record the registration numbers of other vehicles involved particularly the vehicle at fault.

2. Report the accident to police – any accident where an injury has been sustained must be reported to police.  You will not be able to claim for an accident which has not been reported.

3. Seek medical attention.  Often symptoms do not appear immediately after an accident.  You should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

4. Seek legal advice.  There are strict time limitations which apply.  For example, there are shorter time limitations which apply when the vehicle at fault is unregistered or cannot be identified.
